Since biblical times we have been having homeless people and beggars, as the time went by, and wherever we can go, there are always some of them, their number increases constantly.
I think they are never proud of their social and material conditions. And we cannot be either.
They can tell other people different histories, can have different ages, genders, appearances; in general, they are the same as almost other people, some of them are polite, speak well, or even do not seem to be one panhandler. Some people are shy for begging, others are not, and some others pretend to be beggars, they do not need to that.
It is said that around 50% of the world population have 2% percent of wellness world. It is an unequal share of GDP (Gross Domestic Product). If that share does not change, the social condition of people will not, too.
How to modify it? Maybe it is a question without a reasonable, intelligent and practical answer.
I assume that governments have total condition to provide food and shelter for homeless people, and not leave them starving and/or freezing, depending on the geographical position they try to survive. Why do they not do that? Would it not be a lack of plan, action and desire of changing?
So, there are people who give alms for beggars — include, there is a part of them that loves to do it —, they think that they are helping homeless people and beggars. Are they really helping them? I am not sure. Perhaps, they can be disturbing them to change their lives. Sometimes, we need a big event, it does not matter if it is good or bad, to change the essence of our lives, and for some people if they have an old and hard piece of bread to eat is enough for living. However, only that bread is not sufficient for a man to have a real life, with happiness and satisfaction that he/she deserves to justify his/her own existence as a human being.
People, in an overall idea, give alms to feel good with themselves, they think that they are helping to improve panhandler lives and, consequently, the world. Giving alms connected to the idea of changing the world can be a motivation for their own lives, without that, there would not be a reason for their inner existence. Is it true? Are they really helping to change the world for better or are they helping to perpetuate it, as we have been looking for a thousands of years? Dec 28th, 2014
